How do I know What size Dog Crate to Buy for my Dog?
If you get one to small your dog will not be able to get comfortable, and if you get it to big, he'll be able to make a mess in it and still be able to lay down. Dog crates are made of a hard plastic, (often called "Flight Kennels" or "Pet Taxi's") or they are made of a collapsible heavy gauge metal and are more like a day pen. They come in many different sizes and can be purchased at most pet stores. When picking out the right one for you, the crate should be just large enough for your dog to stand up and turn around in. If your dog is still growing, we suggest you by one large enough for your dog to grow into it, and then replace it when it reaches about 8-10 months old. If you can't afford to by a new kennel that soon, choose a crate size that will accommodate it's adult size. But keep in mind, that your dog may have accidents in the kennel if it is to large. One possibility to avoid this would be to block off the excess crate space so your dog can't eliminate at one end and retreat to the other end.
