Neka's New Home
by
Michael Albee – April, 2008
Wandering
aimless, trying always my best,
to find small scraps of food, and a warm place to rest.
As darkness would fall, and the air would turn cold,
I dreamt of a home, straying really got old.
Thrown out like the garbage, not wanted one day,
to live or let die, as they went on their way.
Left on my own, always hoped that I’d find,
someone to care, and someone to mind.
From the pound I looked out, I just wanted to see,
someone who'd love me, and teach me to be me.
I'm a dog full of love, who just can't understand,
why someone won’t take me, "I'll do the best that
I can."
Companion and best friend, that’s what I want to be,
to love and protect you, I'll do it for free.
Finally he found me, he took me right home,
a special person has saved me, from being alone.
Now from this moment, we’ll live as best friends,
no longer to roam, no, not, never again.
We run and we walk, and we play with my toys,
I even hang out, with some nice girls and boys.
I know I am lucky, second chance has been given,
my human is great, and he makes life worth livin'.

Night Before Christmas '08
by Michael Albee – December 2008
It’s
the night before Christmas, the weather is cold;
My dog
loves snow, to her it never gets old.
Now
by the fire, we'll relax for a while;
Later some fun time with Neka, my pal.
We’ll
go for a walk, or play with a toy;
while we
wait for that fat man that once was a boy.
For
years now I've known, that St. Nick is not real;
But she
still believes, and he’s still a big deal.
I
think she still thinks that Santa’s the stork.
She sees
him bring puppies to girls ‘n boys.
She
loves to go visit, and loves to go play;
but she’s
really confused when they aren’t there to stay.
She
just can’t believe that someone would give up;
a beautiful
soul because it still not a pup!
Dogs
aren’t just a toy, that you put on the shelf;
they give
out love freely, they don’t think of themself.
Not
sure that the puppy will be with you for life?
Don’t get
it yet then, It’s not a disposable life.
I
remember with solace my companions over the years;
I now live
with Neka, and she helps with those tears.
I
still think of them all, and the times that we had;
They are
now up in Heaven, hanging out with my dad.
Dogs
are really the best, they don't judge or see faults;
they just
give us their love, never give us insults.
They
are truly a gift that's not just for a season;
They give
us themselves for all the right reasons.
At
Christmas we hasten to buy kids a great gift;
but there's
one thing important we sometimes might miss.
A
dog needs to be family, and cared for the same;
Don't give
someone a life, then put it outside on a chain.
