Why Humans Outlive Most Animals
On the 1st day, God
created dogs, saying "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at
anyone who comes near. For this, I will give you a 20 year life span."
the dogs said, "10 years is enough." So God agreed.
Then God created monkeys, saying, "Entertain people, do tricks, and make
them laugh. For this, I will give you a 30 year life span." The monkeys
said, "20 years is enough." And God agreed.
Then God created cows, saying, "You must go into the field with the
farmer all day long and suffer the sun, have caves and give milk to
support the farmer's family. For this, I will give a life span of 60
years." But the cows said, 20 years is enough." And God agreed.
Then God created human beings, saying, "Eat, sleep, play, marry and
enjoy your life. For this I will give a 20 year life span." But the
humans complained, saying, "Only 20 years? Could you possibly give us
our 20 years, the 40 years the cow gave, the 10 years the monkey gave
back and the 10 years the dog gave back? That makes 80 years." Once
again, God agreed.
This goes a very long way in explaining why for the first 20 years we
eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. And why for the next 40 years we
slave in the sun to support our family. It also explains why for the
next 10 years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren, and
for the last 10 years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.
