About Our Club
The Mid America Thunderbird Club of Iowa was founded in
the early 1980's by a group of people who had a common interest
--- old cars in general, and Thunderbirds is particular. Our
club covers the state of Iowa, and we have members from many
areas of the state.
Our Club is all about
enjoying the company of friends, new and old, and enjoying our
common bond, "Our Thunderbirds". We are a family group.
We are NOT just a bunch of guys standing around with their heads
under the hoods of our cars. But our members are very helpful in
sharing information, trouble shooting problems, and finding
those hard to find parts.
Members also
enjoy the social events scheduled throughout the year.
Club Meetings
and Events
The
club has two regularly scheduled meetings a year. An annual
meeting/lunch usually the third weekend in April and an annual
Fall Picnic/Show
the last weekend in August in Grinnell.
In the past we have
scheduled a tour of a
winery, tours of museums, joint meetings with other clubs,
Valentine Dinner, events at the Madison County Bridges, the John
Wayne birthplace, the Amana Colonies and the National Sprint Car
Hall of Fame and Museum in Knoxville. For several years we had
joint meetings in the Clear Lake area with the Minnesota
Thunderbird Club and a
joint meeting with a Kansas City Club.
Recent events have
included trips/tours Seven Oaks recreational area near Boone and
a luncheon tour of the vintage automobiles at the State
Historical Society.
Each year
the club plans 3-5 special events, socials, tours or rallies. Club
members are encouraged to host a coffee or ice cream social in
their local community.
To learn more about recent events check out our photo pages of this website.
The club
publishes a newsletter six times a year—The
Birdfeeder. The newsletter features stories
and photos about recent events, features about Thunderbirds,
member cars, history and a buy/sell column.
